furnace demand begins at 14C

The GasTrac Feature

  • Demand aggregation and local average daily weather

What the Chart Shows

  • Daily aggregate demand by day of week for a year at a single premise.
  • Saturday demand (in yellow) is slightly higher than other days.
  • Demand is consistent when the average daily temperature is 14C or warmer. This demand is from the hot water tank only.
  • When average daily temperatures are lower than 14C furnace demand is observed.

Why it is Important

  • Furnace demand should not be apparent until at least 16C. If the lines inflected at 16C or warmer than building envelope investigations would be recommended.
  • If there was a significant variation by day of week then changes to thermostat programming could be required to bring demand in line with standards.

Key Point

  • Furnace demand should not be apparent until at least 16C.
